Valentines and Old Computers Can Change Lives
January 2014

Will You Be Our Valentine?

When you recycle your old computers, declutter your closets and donate your goods, shop for treasures or buy a Valentine at our stores, you help your neighbors get jobs.

Thanks to your support, Goodwill can provide on-the-job training in retail and warehousing, and inspire hope and self-confidence through the Suit YourSelf, Soft Skills and Business 101 programs.

* Hearts for Suit YourSelf, February 1 - 14

Share the love and help someone get great clothing for their job interview.

Purchase a Valentine Heart for $1 at the Lee, Pittsfield or North Adams Goodwill stores, support Suit YourSelf and save 10% off your purchase.

Your purchases and donations help people get jobs.

At every Goodwill store, you will see participants in our Retail Work Experience job training program working side-by-side with store staff and volunteers. Young people get valuable work experience. Veterans, seniors and transitional workers add skills to their resumes including retail merchandising, backroom processing, pricing, sales and customer service.

Shopping at Goodwill is not only a Good Deal, it is A Good Deed.

Computer Recycling in Berkshire County and Vermont

DONATIONS & COMPUTER RECYCLING UPDATES

Technology Recycling has never been easier. Recycle your computer clutter at Goodwill. For free. Since 2011, over 320,000 pounds of old computers and peripherals have been safely recycled through the Goodwill Berkshires / Dell Reconnect Partnership.

Donating to Goodwill in the Berkshires has just gotten easier! Our newest donation location just opened at Daley and Sons, 1195 Pleasant St (Rt 102) in Lee MA. You will now find 12 Goodwill Donation locations throughout Berkshire County and Southern Vermont.

The Goodwill Training Center in Pittsfield is the distribution hub for the donation stream. Here our team of employees and job training participants sort and distribute your donated clothing and wares to the retail store for sales, turn t-shirts into cleaning rags, process your old computers for safe recycling and more. It's quite an operation - next time you donate at Tyler Street, park your car and come on in for a tour!

At the Training Center in 2013, 11 people completed the Goodwill Forklift Certification that includes classroom instruction, field training, operators daily checklist and operator performance evaluation. Contact Goodwill to find qualified candidates for your warehouse staffing needs.

GOODWILL JOB TRAINING & SKILLS PROGRAMS UPDATES

Retail Work Experience and Forklift Certification are two of many Goodwill Job Training programs that help people get good jobs. Here's an update on some of our other programs -

Business 101: Spot-On-Cleaning

Goodwill's next innovative Business 101 program, Spot-On-Cleaning, blends classroom instruction with hands-on, supervised training in the real world of Custodial Cleaning. Currently 7 individuals are 'running' this startup business providing bi-weekly cleaning services to RSVP and the Froio Center Pittsfield and the Goodwill Retail stores.

Suit YourSelf

In 2013, 102 people received services through Suit YourSelf, providing professional attire for job interviews and interview coaching. These before/after pictures show the transformations! Suit YourSelf staff continues to present "Your Attire Matters" workshops in collaboration with other organizations and companies including Berkshire Works and Levis.

Soft Skills Training

In 2013, through partnerships with Youth Works, Mildred Elley and MCLA's Career Pathways, Goodwill provided soft skills training workshops for 31 people. Participants learned time management, decision-making and other soft skills through interactive activities, individual coaching, and hands-on work in our warehouse and retail stores.

In closing, your kind donations brought smiles to dozens of children as they visited Santa Claus in December - every child received a book, stuffed animal and photo with Santa for free. Thank you so much for shopping at and donating to Goodwill - the kids in these photos with Santa, their parents and our job training participants thank you for your support!
